Our last morning in London...
After our breakfast we packed ourselves up and made our way to the hotel lobby to wait for our hired car. My folks booked a van to take all six of us and our luggage to the Hertz location at Marble Arch. Our driver arrived early and we were off with no issues.
He let us out at Hertz where we made all of the final arrangements for our nine person van. Although we are only six, the larger size was chosen for added luggage space. We fit easily! The van has three rows with three seats each. (That means we could have a passenger in the front seat.) I haven't seen a car with three in the front since my mom's station wagon when I was a kid. That was back in the day when we didn't wear seat belts and there weren't any car seats.
Then came the moment we had been dreading/anticipating...actually driving! Shawn pulled out of the car park, successfully turned left and stayed in the left lane. He clipped a few curbs but eventually got the hang of the width of the machine.
According to the Hertz desk clerk and our cab driver, the M4 could be easily accessed by just going a few hundred yards and then we would be on our way out of London. Well, somehow we managed to miss the entrance ramp. There was a "diversion" (or detour) and I claimed that as the issue. So, we took ourselves of a bit of a tour of where the real folks live north western Greater London. No worries, mate.
Visiting Stonehenge was the next event...about two hour's drive on the motorway.
Nicholas was dying to take pictures that make it look like he was holding Stonehenge.
Another pair of recreation pics. My mom is now the grandma and I am now the mom. Thirty three years later. The people have changed and the footpath has changed but the rocks, the cloudy skies, and the D1 (not to be confused for 1D) remain the same.
We learned a lot and very much enjoyed our time at Stonehenge!
Then we piled back into the car for our trip to our final destination for the day, Plymouth. This was our first B&B and we booked it for a two night's stay.
The place was lovely. Run by a darling woman named Jane, we were shown to our rooms and got a little but settled before heading off to find some dinner.
