Day 5: The Drive to Niagara Falls
As we were ready to leave, my mom said that she needed some seasickness medicine for her vertigo and there was a Wegmans just across the street. So, while we were inside we decided to get the fixin's for a picnic lunch. There were some lovely "cricks" (aka creeks) along the route and it seemed like this four hour drive would need to be broken up anyway. Hence, a picnic lunch.
We got ham, cheese, bread, a few ready made sandwiches, chips, and water. (And my mom got "less drowsy" Dramamine and seasick wrist bands for a little extra precaution. She seems to not be getting better, but not worse either.)
Yummy...pretzel bread, ham, and cheese.
My dad enjoying the scenery...
True tailgating!
Sandwich selfie.
Cute little river rats.
We enjoyed the riverside picnic! Summer was a wee bit freaked out by this caterpillar on her shoe. These Florida kids are unaccustomed to innocuous creepy crawlers. Summer was certain that the caterpillar was poisonous and refused to touch it. As the good mommy that I am, I remarked, "Ooo, what a handsome critter." And then walked away. I'm not sure how she got the caterpillar off of her sneaker, but I know he was safely removed before we had to get him a passport for entry into Canada.
Crossing the boarder into Canada was no big deal. We presented our passports, removed our hats and sunglasses as requested, made eye contact... but sadly...no stamp.
We stayed at the Sheraton On The Falls, 4th floor, falls view, with adjoining rooms. Much to Shawn's dismay, the kids were super excited that the room had floor to ceiling and wall to wall glass windows WITH A DOOR! Shawn hung back while the rest of us taunted him and took turns standing on the ledge, looking over the railing.
The American Falls are on the left and the Horseshoe Falls are on the right - taken from our hotel. AMAZING!!!
The following pictures are from the restaurant balcony (on the 13th floor). The buffet dinner was ok but the view was beyond words!
After eating too much, followed by about twenty trips to the dessert section of the buffet, we waddled down to see some of the sights (and the gift shop).
Goodnight!
